Alec Andon, aka Alec Monopoly, is one of those jet-setting artists whose street art has taken him from city walls to gallery walls. Always between planes, whether for a mix, a collaboration or a piece of work, it’s a pleasure to find him in Paris at the Plaza Athénée bar.
First of all, how are you?
I’m good, just been traveling a lot these days so I’m a bit jetlagged.
What impact has this decade had on your creativity?
So much has happened in the art world this decade mainly street art and graffiti being finally acknowledged by the fine art world. For years it was frowned upon as just vandalism but now it’s collected and accepted as the real form it is !
Where are you with the NFT bubble? Has it changed the way you design your work?I believe in NFTs and believe they will come back! Actually while working on my NFT collection. I created my new character Little Richie who I use now in my graffiti and canvas paintings.
How did you live through the Covid-19 pandemic?
It was actually a great creative time for me to focus on my art and also get back into Music and DJing.
Can you tell me more about your latest collaboration with the Plaza Athénée Paris?
